Compare the complete installed cost

Ask for a quote in Canadian dollars showing the exact brand, model, size and service description. Separate tire cost, mounting, balancing, valves or TPMS work, disposal, applicable fees and HST. Compare warranties by their exclusions and claim process as well as their headline term. A used tire needs casing, bead and previous-repair inspection; remaining tread alone does not establish suitability.

Compare two tire quotes on the same basis

  • Match the exact model, size, load index and speed symbol before comparing price. Different service descriptions are different products even when the brand and rim diameter match.
  • Separate tire-only cost from the installed total. Include valves or sensor service parts, balancing, disposal, applicable fees and HST in both estimates.
  • For used options, compare measured tread across the width, date codes, previous repairs and casing condition; ask what inspection and warranty evidence will be supplied.
  • If replacing a pair, ask about rear-axle placement for stability and the vehicle’s approved matching limits. AWD and staggered fitments need particular attention before a two-tire purchase.

The least expensive compatible option may differ from the lowest advertised tire price. A written specification makes the comparison reproducible.

Read the specification, not just the wheel diameter

A marking such as 225/45R17 94V identifies width, aspect ratio, construction, rim diameter, load index and speed symbol. The final two ratings matter as much as the size. Confirm the vehicle placard, OEM fitment and required load capacity; an XL, LT or HL designation is not interchangeable with a standard-load tire by appearance alone.

Aftermarket wheels also need correct width, offset, bolt pattern, centre bore, fastener seat and brake clearance. For AWD vehicles, check the manufacturer’s limits on circumference and tread-depth differences. Our new and used tire guide explains the quote inputs and tire categories. Named models are examples, not a live stock list.

Choose a seasonal setup before the cold arrives

Use the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) marking to identify snow-traction qualification; an M+S marking alone is different. Winter tires suit sustained cold and winter road conditions, while all-weather tires offer a year-round compromise. Summer performance tires require particular care as temperatures fall. Transport Canada uses 7°C as a planning threshold and recommends four winter tires. Its snow-use guidance cautions against tread worn close to 4 mm; that is not a universal legal wear limit.

Keep the vehicle-approved size and service description, or an approved winter fitment. Staggered vehicles can require different front and rear sizes. Book a seasonal tire change before a forecast becomes an urgent scheduling problem.
